About Sea Glass

Sea Glass: A Vanishing Treasure

Sea Glass, also known as beach glass or mermaid tears, comes from old glass items which have found their way to the ocean one way or another. The glass is tumbled for years by the surf and sand to produce a beautifully smooth gem. Prior to the 1960's most products were sold in glass receptacles.  As plastic and metal developed there was a decreased need for colorful glass bottles and jars. Modern containers coupled with recycling laws have made real sea glass truly a rare treasure.
